Art and commerce

There is an old fellow who stands on the sidewalk near the AM-PM sometimes, and he sells stories for a dollar each. Now, this isn’t just some “hey, if you give me a dollar I’ll yammer something ridiculous for a little while” enterprise that this guy is running; these are printed stories, with crayon drawings. It’s a really good deal.

He was out there today, and he had “a story about the Anti-Christ, a Jewish comedy, a children’s Bible story, and science fiction.” I probably should have bought them all, but that seemed a little greedy or something so I just went with the science fiction.

It was very well-written, but the ending was a real bummer. Maybe I’ll go back and get the Jewish comedy if he’s still out there.
