Word of the day for Tuesday, September 7th

My mother got me a really great book for my birthday called The Lost Beauties of the English Language. The book consists of words that the author thought were in danger of extinction that he wanted people to start using again; the subtitle of the book is An Appeal to Authors, Poets, Clergymen and Public Speakers. The book was written in 1874, and so some of these words have sadly marched into the twilight by now. It’s a shame. Is it too late for me to take up the author’s appeal, and entreat you to start using some of these words? I hope not, because today’s word deserves a second chance.

Glitter textSleeple. It means to sleep, but just a little bit. Somehow it’s better than “nap,” isn’t it? I see that the Urban Dictionary has an entry for the word, but with another meaning that’s a little too close to “sheeple” for my taste.
