Pullet surprise

My brother lives in Temecula, California. Not too long ago it was a ranch community, but in the past twenty years or so it’s become one of those tract housing sprawls where nothing ever happens and the people living there like it that way. Or so I thought. Recently a McDonald’s restaurant in the town has found itself under the scrutiny of none other than hard-hitting global news resource CNN:

In the end, the elusive chicken that took up residence outside a McDonald’s just got too comfortable in its new home.

For four months customers tried unsuccessfully to catch the brown hen using bait or bare hands. Last week, the fast fowl was finally captured after it settled in for the night right on top of the drive-through window box.

A group of employees distracted the bird with bites of hamburger bun and nabbed it.

I can’t tell if the chicken was protesting the new breakfast biscuits or if she just had some sort of suicidal Charlie the Tuna thing going on, but whatever the case, I think I should call my brother right now and warn him to keep his eyes out for any further suspicious activity. A similar thing happened in Oviedo, Florida, and now that town is ruled by roving gangs of poultry blocking traffic and demanding obeisance. You can’t be too safe when it comes to chickens.
